Fantastic book. Great for middle school and high school readers. This book was well put together. The information was interesting and the language used was approachable. Terms that may be unfamiliar to the reader were briefly explained as well as defined in the glossary at the end. It was also a good length. Entries gave some important details about each person and explained other relevant information such as transgender identity and disrespectful mascots.
The women included in the book were also diverse. There are plenty of women you’d expect to find in a book of this nature, such as Gloria Steinem and Betty Friedan. But there were also many women of color. I also liked that women who have been active recently such as Emma Watson, Janet Mock, Alicia Garza, and Manal al-Sharif were included. I think it is easy to fall into the idea that activism was something people did a long time ago that you learn about in history class, so it’s great so see a book that shows how women are making a difference in the world today.
Very, very good book. I definitely want to read the rest of the series as well. Also a great place to find books to add to your reading list (can never have too many of those!).
