A sweet companion book to The King of Kindergarten. MJ’s mom gives her a tiara to wear on the first day of school and tells her how to be a good queen. This includes brightening up the room, being caring and kind, and helping others.
MJ does just that, making new friends and spreading kindness. I love MJ’s confidence. She recognizes what she’s good at and doesn’t downplay her abilities and skills. This is such a great message, especially for young girls who are usually told not to “brag”.
As with the first book, the illustrations are adorable. Also, I found it really cool that some of Barnes’ previous books are featured in the artwork. A really fun detail, especially if kids have already read them and can recognize the covers.
A fun, positive book that shows how to conquer kindergarten with kindness, confidence, and good cheer.
