Illustrated by Rahele Jomepour Bell

5 stars

A beautiful story of grief, loss, and remembering.

The narrator and her grandfather have a special box of treasures that is all their own. Together, they add to the collection. But when her grandfather passes away, the narrator doesn’t want to open the box anymore; it will just make her sadder.

A touching story that uses kid-friendly language to talk about grief and sadness surrounding death.

The illustrations are soothing and absolutely beautiful. They perfectly capture the relationship between a grandchild and her grandparent.

The sweetest ending. I loved the message that continuing to do the things you loved together can keep you connected to the person you lost and that grief doesn’t have to be something you do alone.

A wonderful book for discussing grief and death. Also, as a collector of random things, I really enjoyed getting to see the pair’s special collection. It was filled with so many cool finds.
