| A nice short play that really delves into the depths of human relationships. This work is simple, but also acts as an interesting case of the ways people change and learn from each other. While Hoke’s character is a pretty bland representation of a black man, his candid and honest comments to Miss Daisy give a refreshing humanity to the black/white-worker/employer paradigm. It is clear by the end that Hoke and Miss Daisy have moved beyond the purely professional realm and have formed a real friendship. The interactions of race, privilege, class, and religion give this simple play a good message regarding humanity and diversity. |
