| So for anyone who didn’t know, there is no new material in this graphic novel that is not in The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead in Recorded Attacks. Apparently that is a huge misconception. Basically all this book does is illustrate some of the more interesting attacks stories already found in the survival guide.Having said that, let’s give credit where credit is due. Ibraim Roberson’s artwork is really what makes this book so cool. Absolutely amazing. I tend to be weary of black-and-white graphic novels, because it’s hard for me to pay attentionafter a while, but Roberson’s art is so phenomenal, it doesn’t even need color. The drawings themselves are great. The shading is perfect. The details are fantastic. Some of the best art I’ve seen in a graphic novel. Also, because the text is only narration instead of actual character speech, the pages don’t feel crammed despite that crazy amount of detail in every scene (My favorites are the reoccurring women holding babies while going into battle zombies. Badasses.) So now that you know how much I love the art, here’s another disclaimer. It is super gory. If you don’t like gore, don’t read this. I’m not sure why you’d want to read about zombies if your so squeamish around gore in the first place, but if for some reason you felt the need to read it despite your fear of the inside of human bodies, don’t do it. You probably won’t like it, then you’ll write a bad review because you picked a book that wasn’t right for you. If you like zombies, Max Brooks’ other words, or don’t might a few gruesome fight scenes and lots of severed heads, give this a whirl. |
