This is a perfect book for gaining insight into the lives of adults diagnosed with ASD or what was formally diagnosed as Asperger’s Syndrome.

Having worked with children with ASDs for the past two years, I was very excited to read some first-hand accounts of adults with ASDs. All of the contributors were diagnosed in adulthood and most of them were diagnosed with what was known as Asperger’s.

I really liked that Prince-Hughes did not set limits for the contributors. Some contributions were long. Some were short. Some covered multiple topics. Others focused on specific aspects of life. Some read as very straight-forward whereas others were poetic. All of them were very well done.

I especially enjoyed the accounts regarding food tolerance, generalization, and auditory processing since these are areas I actively see in my work. But I think the information regarding fitting in, getting a job, adapting to college living (food, residence, schedule, lectures, etc.), and forming intimate relationships (dating, sex, marriage) was very beneficial to understanding certain individual’s experiences with each topic.

A truly unique endeavor that brings out the good and bad of ASDs from the mouths of people who actually experience them. A must read for all involved in the ASD community.
