Pretty good overall.
This is a Step 3 reader recommended for grades 1 to 3. It supposedly uses “easy-to-follow plots” to aid with reading, but I found this one a little confusing. I will start by saying that if you haven’t seen the movie yet and don’t want it to be spoiled, don’t read this book. Watch the movie first. This gives away the major twist in the film. What appears to be an introduction to Elastigirl’s character is actually a rundown of the major events in the movie, including the ending.
I found the writing very choppy. I think too much detail was crammed into the story. There is no buildup, it all just feels like a summary. Even though it is a Step 3 book, I think the scope should have been narrowed a bit. The book is all over the place with many major issues being resolved in one short sentence. I think some of the scenes could have been cut and others developed more to make a stronger story.
The real redeeming thing about the book was the artwork. I really enjoyed the artsy style of the pictures.
Overall, it was good. I liked that it focused on Elastigirl. Good for fans of the Incredibles series.
