A brilliant piece that explores various trans experiences through art forms such as prose, poetry, and screenplay. This project took first-person submissions from various youth at For the Love of Learning and dramatized them in a powerful play. The book includes the text of the full play as well as some of the individual pieces from the contributors. As a whole, it creates a wonderful look at the progression of mindset and self-image of a few young artists and has an overall message of hope.
I really enjoyed the opportunity to read some of the original submissions and then see how they made their way into the play, interwoven into other’s works or standing alone. I especially enjoyed the sections by Violet Drake and Dane Woodland. Through prose and poetry, the contributors express themselves in a raw fashion that rips right into the reader’s heart.
Wonderful, wonderful read that is powerful and enlightening. I can only imagine what an amazing experience it would be to see this performed live.
