A gorgeous book that tells an amazing story of determination, resilience, and passion. This is a fantastic introductory read about a remarkable woman.
The book demonstrates Clark’s early fascination with sharks and her work to be taken seriously in her pursuit to learn about them and dispel popular misconceptions. It includes a brief look at some of her work and discoveries including training sharks, discovering previously unknown species of fish, and her study that showed sharks do not need to keep swimming in order to breathe.
The illustrations are absolutely beautiful. Marta Álvarez Miguéns really captured the sleek grace that captivates so many of us shark-lovers. I really enjoyed the artwork, especially the whimsical pieces of the sharks swimming through Eugenie Clark’s life.
At the end of the book are some additional facts about sharks, a timeline of some of the major events in Eugenie Clark’s life, and a short bibliography of more books and articles about Clark.
For an excellent chapter book that gives a bit more detail on Clark, I would highly recommend America’s Shark Lady The Complete Adventures Of Eugenie Clark.
This book is absolutely lovely and tells an amazing story. Great way to learn about sharks, conservation efforts, and famous scientists.
