Okay collection filled with passion and perspective.

I think this is best experienced when performed by the poet himself. Reading it, it was often difficult for me to get the right rhythm and flow of each piece.

For me personally, I didn’t really connect with the poems. There were wonderful descriptions and images created, but their messages often eluded me.

Nearly half of the poems were previously published, but the collection does build on these. I wasn’t really a fan of the repetition and using the same title for multiple pieces (13 poems called “How Can Black People Write About Flowers at a Time Like This”), but I do think it was an interesting artistic choice.

This one didn’t work for me personally, but it certainly has some great appeal.
