A wonderful picture book that tells the story of a big idea and a community coming together to make it happen. Amara loves bats. But when she moves to a new town, there are none in sight. With the help of the park ranger along with her new friends and neighbors, Amara helps create a home for bats and other animals in the city.
I loved the inclusive illustrations. The art style is absolutely adorable. The pictures showcase what appears to be a single-parent household and a variety of skin tones and features are represented. There are characters who wear glasses and a named character who uses a wheelchair.
Such a sweet story. I loved that Amara took inspiration from other young activists to educate others and work toward a common goal. A wonderful example of a neighborhood coming together.
The back of the book contains additional resources including bat facts and myths, a breakdown of echolocation, how bats help spread seeds, a guide for setting up a bat house, and other ways to help bats.
A fantastic story with gorgeous illustrations, interesting information, and a wonderful message.
