This is a Ready-to-Go book for those just starting to sound out words and recognize sight words. All of the words in the book are featured in the beginning so the reader can practice before reading the book. This book uses sight words, word families, and repetition to aid in reading.

As far as super beginner books go, this one was pretty good. It uses standard repetition to keep the story going and tells much of the plot through the pictures.

Mostly, the story just didn’t really make sense to me. Batman comes off as humorously incompetent when he completely misses Robin being literally carted away (silently and compliantly without a gag of any sort) on the first page. He then must go find him.

The pictures were okay. I understand it is set at night, but they were pretty dark and repetitive. Most of them consist of Batman is various poses with a shadowy carnival background. Not too exciting.

At the end of the book are a few questions to test reading comprehension and memory.

Read this with one of the kids I work with and she enjoyed the pictures of Batman and The Joker.
