A nice updated version of Black Canary suitable for young readers. Dinah Lance has to navigate the world of junior high complete with arguments with friends, that one bully who’s mean for no reason, and a principal that seems to be out to get her… as well as the strange happenings of things breaking wherever she goes.
Nice quick pace to this graphic novel. It’s quite engaging from the beginning and the story develops at a good speed. Enjoyed Dinah’s fierce personality and determination. Also liked that she made the Black Canary costume her own. It fit with her style well.
I’m a pretty quiet person in general, but this book serves as a great reminder to not lose your voice when others try to get you down. That’s when you need it most. Practice control when necessary but don’t be afraid to speak out. An important message, especially for girls who’ve been told they’re too loud.
