This was an okay read. Liz Climo did a fantastic job with the illustrations. I love the way she balanced simplicity with detail. They are very cute and entertaining. The story itself starts off funny enough. Elephant has an itch and asks multiple animals for help. As the story progresses, Elephant gets more and more rude until the very end when he mistreats the one animal who actually helped him (and didn’t even say thank you). I get the humor, but why on earth would you think this would be a successful children’s book? It basically teaches kids that you should just use people to get what you want and then throw them away (literally). Yes, it is supposed to be funny, but as Mo Willems has proven multiple times, books can be weird and funny while still teaching an important lesson. This book was just lacking for me. Good start and great illustrations, but the ending really brought the whole book down.
