| I received an uncorrected proof of this book through LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review.I really enjoyed this book.Before starting this book, I read a different book that I absolutely hated because it didn’t have a plot and it didn’t really seem to go away. While this book is similar in that it is less plot-driven and more of a collection of thoughts and memories spanning a woman’s life, this novel does so in a way the is interesting. I enjoyed watching the woman come of age and figure out life in general.The book includes the events of three separate summer’s of the woman’s life: childhood, college, and adulthood. The character grows so much in writing (more simplistic when recounting childhood) as well as understanding, especially in politics and relationships.Again, there isn’t much plot, but the development of the character is phenomenal. It was a pleasure to read how she came into herself. A quick read, but one that is mesmerizing as the reader delves into the young woman’s life and learns of family, power, complicity, and life. |
