This was an okay read. I picked up a copy at Goodwill because I liked the idea of the letters. Unfortunately, they are kind of a pain. For each one, you can open the letter and see what is written inside. This is a cool set-up idea, but the structure was not very well thought through. Without fail, every single letter has a small tear where it connects to the spine. No matter how careful I am, the darn thing rips whenever I open the letter. I bought it to look through with a little girl I work with, but I didn’t end up bringing it in, because those pages are too annoying.
Having said that, the illustrations are fantastic. I love all of the colors and details. Very well-done pictures.
The letters themselves are okay. There is a strange theme of eating animal characters (frogs, crabs) running throughout that is a little unnerving. Nothing too exciting is revealed in the letters.
Overall, an okay book. It is undeniably pretty, but it feels like a book you can look at and never read for fear of ripping it.
