5 stars

Well-written and easy to understand. A fantastic resource for anyone involved in collection development and policy writing in libraries.

The book centers around Jamison’s collection development policy inclusivity tool, J-MOD, which tracks the use and frequency of various words related to diversity and inclusivity. There are detailed instructions for using J-MOD as well as examples.

Part 1 consists of background and why inclusion is needed in libraries, with specific focus on the Library Bill of Rights. This is especially helpful for library staff to verbalize to shareholders why inclusion is necessary in policy and within the collection. Part 2 provides details on using J-MOD and tips for making policies more inclusive. There are also sample policies and examples with analysis on how to make them more inclusive.

I especially appreciated the suggested resources for making inclusive selection decisions.

While many of the samples are for school libraries specifically, the information is easy to apply to other libraries as well.

A great resource for all libraries.
