A fun epistolary series for young readers. Told entirely through letters, notes, newspaper articles, and reports, this book is full of mischief, humor, and blossoming friendships. A writer who hasn’t written in 20 years, a ghost who wants to be published, a boy whose paranormal-researcher-parents distance themselves from his assertions that ghosts are real, and a trusty feline are forced together in this surprisingly-heartwarming tale.
For me, the story started off a bit slow, but once the characters all came together, it was a wild ride.
Packed with silly puns. Each character’s name has their own fun (and sometimes grim) word play. I especially loved the macabre-style ones such as M. Balm the librarian and Kay Daver the grocer.
Definitely intrigued about the rest of the series. This one sets the tone nicely and I’m interested to know what the trio is up to next.
