An engaging and fast-paced adventure through the afterlife. This story has a little bit of everything. A shadowy villain, a trusty sidekick, a side romance, an unsure hero, and a fascinating look at the world of the dead.
I wasn’t sure what to expect with this one but was pulled in from nearly the first page. I really enjoyed the various kingdoms presented in the afterlife, the villain’s backstory, and the friendships and familial ties that develop throughout.
The word-building and characters are fairly simple, but I don’t think that’s necessarily bad for a graphic novel for young readers. There’s still plenty going on. I flew through this pretty quickly and had to keep reminding myself to slow down and enjoy the artwork. There’s plenty of great details that really build up the world.
A quick read great for those who enjoy a bit of genre-mixing, dynamic plots, general creepiness, and some gross-out humor.
