This action-packed graphic novel introduces a new superhero, Lolo, who develops psychokinetic powers, sparked when her brother is attacked by police.

A wonderful look at family dynamics. After her mother left, Lolo and her brother have been raised by their father. I loved the representation of a strong single father who is there for his family. He owns his own moving company and works hard to move his family out of the Monroe housing projects. Despite his job, he does what he can to be there for his kids and others in the neighborhood, offering them opportunities and support.

Touches on some tough issues including police brutality, racial profiling, crime, and gang violence. Because the book tackles so much, I felt some areas were rushed. Some moments were touched on without full resolution.

Each chapter is named after an Alicia Keys song, which is a fun incorporation of her music career.

A sweet ending. Hoping there is a follow up. I’d love to learn more about the family’s history of strange powers and Lolo’s mysterious connection to Michael.
