Buying ribbon with cool designs on it can get expensive. But with a little paint, you can create your own designs.

Not great at free-handing? No worries. You can use a stencil or stamp to help you.

So without further ado, here is how to make the Harry Potter Hair Bow.

Supplies:

  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun and glue
  • Paint (gold for lightning bolts)
  • Paintbrush
  • Scrap ribbon or cloth
  • Clip (optional)

1. If you want, you can utilize a clip to hold your ribbon in a makeshift bow while painting. This way you don’t have to paint the entire ribbon, just what will show.

2. Paint whatever design your heart desires. I chose lightning bolts.

3. Once you are satisfied with your design, unclip the ribbon.

4. By running a line of hot glue across the middle of your ribbon, secure one end in to create your first loop.

5. Repeat on the other side to make the second loop.

6. Glue the scrap cloth/ribbon to the front of the bow with a large drop of glue in the center.

7. Wrap the scrap cloth around the ribbon, making a bow, and glue to the back of the ribbon to form a loop. Before gluing, you can play around with how tight the cloth is to get the desired look for your bow.

If you’re using a piece of ribbon to secure the bow, you can fold the sides inward and glue them in place to get a nice, clean edge.

8. Add any finishing touches to celebrate the boy who lived.
