I received a signed copy of this book through Goodreads in exchange for an honest review.
I won this book back in March and I didn’t receive it until earlier this month (after contacting Goodreads to say it never arrived). I had pretty much given up on the book coming as I have won a few other books that never found their way to me. However, when I finally got it, I was delighted.
A beautiful, engaging read that teaches some of the ways we need to heal our earth in a simple way that I don’t think is overwhelming for children.
I really liked the use of “buttons” that the child can press to help solve different issues. From bringing doctors and medicine to those who need it to brightening up the coral reef, children can push a button to help heal the world. If only it were that easy. This is a great way to make the book more fun and engaging for children.
The book gives very simple explanations and overviews of various issues, such as that zooxanthellae (zooks) give the coral reef its color, but warm waters due to climate change decrease the zooks on the reef. The problems are presented in a way that is easy to understand and isn’t overwhelming. This book is meant to teach children about some environmental and human issues and show them that there is something that can be done about these issues. A nice positive book with a hopeful message.
The illustrations are beautiful. Nice contrast is the “before”/”after” pictures. The illustrations are never too bleak and show people doing what they can to help fix the problem. I also liked the diversity of the children featured in the White Feather Flier. Great inclusivity, showing that everyone plays a part in the healing of our earth.
The book also includes a beautiful poem by Julian Lennon and a message about his White Feather Foundation (for more information you can visit their website or follow them on Facebook).
Really very nice message. A great step in the right direction meant to help teach the next generation to love and care for each other and the planet.
Beautiful book. Beautiful message. Beautiful goal. I really enjoyed it.
