When I read books, especially graphic novels, I like to not really know much about the story and what happens in it. I really think the experience is better when you aren’t expecting certain things to happen. Leave it to say, I was not prepared in the least for this amazing storyline.

I was a little hesitant to read the book because of the title. Poor giants. What did they do wrong? But I was glad to see how the story actually played out.

I also think there is a right way and a wrong way to do black and white comics. This is a perfect example of the right way. It really adds to the creepiness and chaos of the world in the story.

I don’t really want to say anything about the plot because this is one of those stories that is best read without expectations. But I will say it is a story about friendship, family, and of course, giants.

Downside to the book was that there were some not-okay things such as the use of lesbian slurs as insults and of course the whole bullying storyline. The message is that to deal with a bully you should physically fight back. This makes sense for Barbara’s character, but probably isn’t the best for certain audiences. Decent amount of violence, as should be expected from the title alone.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. There were a few downsides to it, but I loved Barbara’s character (in a despicable kind of way) and enjoyed seeing the progression of the story.
