Welcome to Lilliputian Villages Summer Camp a.k.a. Camp Lil’Vills where there are plenty of magical surprises in store for the campers. Bloom, the daughter of an ex-evil sorcerer, helps new campers settle in. But when she meets her new bunkmate, Cruella, she’s unsure if camp is the right place for the animal-hating new arrival.
I liked the concept of a magical camp featuring Disney villains. Personally, I thought Cruella was an odd choice to start the series off. Why she’d end up at a magical camp in the first place didn’t really click for me. She clearly hates nature, animals, and most people.
As expected, Cruella shows a bit too much interest in various animals around the camp. This goes so far as to include various attempts to maim said animals either because she doesn’t like them or for the sake of fashion. Honestly, this plot line was not for me. I could not get into the story.
The reader kind of gets thrown into the story without much background. The ending was pretty lackluster and the lessons felt forced.
I read an ARC, but based on the sketches, the artwork in the book is nice. Sweet style that pairs well with the text.
Okay book. It was well-written overall. I may try another in the series, because the idea was cool. Cruella just did not work for me.
