I really enjoyed this book. It is obvious from page one that G. M. Berrow has a connection to the show. I hate reading books based on TV show characters where the author doesn’t know the first thing about the characters, history, and environment of the show and you’re left with characters who don’t act anything like themselves. That is not a problem with Berrow. I love how she ties in little details and historical events. It really strengthens the book. This reads like a continuation of the show.

This book takes place somewhere after season 6 when Starlight Glimmer in no longer a villain and is working with Twilight. However, I think you can go into this book without much knowledge of Equestria. It is written in a way that will please MLP fans, but can also be enjoyed by those who are not as familiar with the show. A basic understanding of the show is helpful (alicorn status, unicorn magic, etc.), but is not completely necessary.

The story itself was very entertaining. The chapters ending in good spots in the story, making the reader crave more. This is a great chapter book for young readers either to read alone or to be read aloud.

At the end of the book, there are also games and puzzles to solve (maze, word search, mad lib, and drawing opportunities). These are all very Twilight Sparkle and add another layer of fun to the book.

Great book. Well-done. I can’t wait to read more of The Princess Collection books.
