I was not familiar with this Laurie Berkner song before finding this book at the library (I recently read We Are the Dinosaurs and loved it so I figured I’d give this one a try). I read the book first, then listened to the song.

I really enjoyed this book, mostly because the illustrations are beautiful and the details in them are phenomenal. The reader instantly falls in love with the children featured in the book (and I loved the striking similarities between the king and queen of Pillowland and the children’s parents- adorable).

The words in the book are slightly different than the original song in terms of repetition and such, but other than that it is pretty consistent with the song.

As with Laurie Berkner’s other books, this one includes the sheet music for the song on the back cover (kind of disappointing for me since I have a library book and the jacket is taped to the book). It is a very nice touch.

Nice for sing alongs or helping children who are familiar with the song to follow along with the words.

Beautiful book. Very creative and imaginative. A nice bedtime book.
