As I sit here snuggling with my cat, I thought it would be a good time to review some of the picture books I got from the library. This one is one of my favorites in my latest haul.
This is such a cute story. It is fairly simple, but very adorable. This is one of those books that children can enjoy on one level and adults on another. Any pet-owning adult can relate to the quirks of dog and/or cat ownership expressed here.
I also like the mashup of cute and gross. For every adorable picture of Princess Puffybottom there is also a dog eating its own vomit and a fairy amount of poop piles and urine puddles. Gross yet cute, pretty much pet ownership in a nutshell.
The illustrations were fun with a great amount of detail. Plus, I loved the humor of the ending (Princess Puffybottom has no idea what’s in store for her). And can we talk about the final reveal of the “subjects” for a second? I loved the seamless inclusion.
A very fantastic read.
