I really enjoyed traversing these retellings of the classic Rapunzel story. The choose-your-own-adventure format was an awesome way to experience the fairy tale in an entirely new fashion.
This book contains three separate stories, each with their own unique paths to travel. Follow Zel, a high schooler who longs for freedom and friendship; Rae, a gamer with a few mysteries to solve; and Dame Gothel, a supposed witch who may not be all that she seems. Each story feels entirely different and I especially enjoyed getting Gothel’s perspective on the whole thing.
The choose-your-own-adventure style worked very well as an ebook, with links to return back to the start to choose a new path. The book also includes wonderful black-and-white illustrations that help enhance the story.
The writing is very simple as is told in a way so the reader can take on the role of the main character. A fun, immersive read that allows the readers to take on their own adventure.
The book also has a chapter that gives a bit of history on the Rapunzel story as well as a section with ideas on how to further retell the story.
A very fun reading experience. I will definitely be reading more in this series.
