I received a copy of this book through BookLikes in exchange for an honest review. This is such an interesting and unique idea for a story. I really enjoyed the plot and the shifting focus of the narration to give details into the candidates lives before entering the game as well as people working for and organizing the game. This is the fourth book I have read by Haidji and it is very different than her other work. This book is more straightforward with less poetic language. The language used was often repetitive such as the Hostess giving the same little speech before each jump, which seemed to stretch out the narration longer than was necessary. Also the events of the story were quite repetitive as well (continuously jumping). It may have been more interesting if the candidates had to perform different tasks at each step instead of just jumping. However, I did really enjoy the various character growths throughout the story, especially Alessandra. It was a bit difficult to keep track of the many characters in the book, but each person had their own unique story developed throughout the novel.Overall this was a unique story with some interesting characters, making for a good read. |
