An interesting graphic adaptation of Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery”. This does a good job of capturing the mood of the original story. The same eeriness and dread are apparent throughout. Much of the story is told through its pauses and the book is very art-heavy. I would recommend having already read the original to get all the nuances of the story in its graphic format.
The illustration style wasn’t my favorite, but the art was nice enough. It had an Edward Hopper kind of vibe to it.
A good read overall. I did like that Jackson’s grandson was the one to adapt this. A unique piece for fans of Shirley Jackson.
