Pretty much all I know about having siblings is what I’ve seen on TV and read in books. I’m sure those with siblings would find this more interesting. I did read this one before Smile, which may have impacted my reading experience. I didn’t connect with any of the characters and found most of the book rather dull. To me this book read as a series of times two sisters didn’t get along while on a road trip with some flashbacks thrown in along with a string of scenes featuring pets meeting grim ends. Not really for me. There wasn’t very much development and the ending was pretty lackluster. I realize it’s based on real life but it didn’t make for a very engaging story. I can appreciate the author bringing in real-life experience and relationships to the series, but I didn’t find it particularly interesting. However, I realize I’m not the target demographic. I think younger readers could find this more entertaining and relatable. As with Telgemeier’s other works, the artwork is great. Wonderful range of expression with every character. This was a quick and easy read. I can definitely see why it’s popular, but it just wasn’t a good fit for me. Goodreads |
