Such a wonderful read! At the start, we are introduced to Skye, who shares stories from her grandfather about the natural world. They explain the origins of animal characteristics such as raccoon’s black mask, beaver’s large teeth, and rabbit’s long ears. Each story ends with a morale such as the importance of listening, to always believe in yourself enough to try, and to never steal from others.

Well-written and beautiful.

Wonderful illustrations that pair perfectly with each story. I loved seeing the different personalities of the animals.

At the back of the book, there are stunning photos taken by the author’s daughter, a storytelling basket activity, and a glossary of Ojibway words used in the stories.

A fantastic read. I’d love to see this continue as a series with more stories in the same format.
