Okay book. I picked this up from the library because one of the kids I work with likes the Ninja Turtles. He enjoyed looking at the pictures, especially the fight scenes.
This is a Step 2 book so the language used is very simple, it has a basic story, and is uses short sentences. The story was just okay. Because it had to be so simple, it was a little boring. Nothing was very developed, which is understandable, but still made for a rather dull read.
I was more intrigued by the giant bugs that show up than anything else in the story. They aren’t even just bugs, they’re weird bug-like mashups, one of which has an extra neck-face. They looked pretty creepy. I wanted to hear their backstory and what the heck they were (and why in the world they needed money from a bank in the first place?).
Just an okay book. Fun illustrations for fans of the Ninja Turtles.
Note: Just looked up the episode this is based on and apparently they are mutant bug henchmen, which already makes them way cooler than this book made them out to be. I understand the need for simplicity in a Step 2 book, but come on… MUTANT BUG HENCHMEN! How do you make MUTANT BUG HENCHMEN boring?
