I had no idea what I was getting into with this one but was pleasantly surprised. This is my new favorite interpretation of cozy mystery.

Father and daughter team, Nagare and Koishi, run the Kamogawa Diner, known for serving delicious meals. But the pair also offers another services. Using his experience as a former police detective, Nagare recreates special dishes from customers’ pasts. From a mother’s nikujaga to the beef stew eaten during a shocking conversation, the Kamogawa Diner brings in a variety of customers in search of memorable meals.

Each chapter is broken into two parts, one in which the details of the dish are given in an interview with Koishi, and the second in which Nagare reveals his recreation. The descriptions were absolutely mouth-watering.

Well-written with heartfelt explorations of past loves, parents, grandparents, and other memorable connections. I listened to the audio and it was fantastic.

A wonderfully cozy read that blends food, family, and memories. Would definitely recommend to those who enjoyed the connected short story format of Before the Coffee Gets Cold.

Delightful and delectable. I can’t wait to read the next book for more food mysteries.
