I have a slight obsession with books that feature various amazing women (Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 Tales of Extraordinary WomenThe Little Book of Feminist Saints). They are always fantastic because they have a nice mix of well-known women as well as women that aren’t exactly household names but have impacted the world in some way. This one is no exception.

I really enjoyed learning about various funny women and all of the paths they took to find themselves in the world of comedy. From Lucille Ball and Joan Rivers to Marie Dressler and Nasim Pedrad, this collection features a diverse collection of women who all love to get a laugh. There is also a nice mix of old-school funny women as well as women who are still making us laugh today.

For each women included, there is also a lovely illustration as well as a funny/inspiring/eye-opening quote. The book is broken down into sections, which include Snarky, Sassy, Super Smarties; Courageous, Creative, Character Comics; Dauntless, Defiant, Daringly Disruptive; Magnificent, Marvelous, Mighty Misfits; and Brave, Bold, Brazen Badasses. It was fun to learn about various types of comedy and the women who make them shine.

I think one of the things that really made this book work is that Moeschen herself is very funny. With humorous descriptions and turns of phrase, it’s easy to slip into the humor of the book itself. With a motivational message at the end, this is a wonderful read for those interested in any form of comedy, especially for women.

Great collection.
