I really enjoy The Little Prince. I have read the English translation of the book, listened to the audiobook, watched the latest movie adaptation on Netflix, and listened to said movie’s soundtrack, which is amazing. I was very excited to see that there was a graphic novel adaptation as well.

This one was just okay for me though. The story is told in a very choppy way so even though I am familiar with the story, I was a little confused. Little bits and pieces are added (such as a smoke snake that tells the narrator he shouldn’t be smoking in a children’s book), some of which work and some of which don’t.

But the big thing that turned me off to this graphic novel was the artwork. It’s a pretty major component of any graphic novel and this was just a miss for me. Honestly a lot of the artwork is creepy. It doesn’t look intentional most of them time and often doesn’t fit with the story .

I honestly had to reread this panel a few times to see if I was missing something. Chill out, Little Prince, it wasn’t that funny. You’re making things weird.

Much of the artwork appears sloppy and sometimes actually makes the story harder to understand. The only thing this book had going for it was that it had the main plot points of such a fantastic story as The Little Prince. Otherwise, it was just okay.
