A strange but entertaining read. Manceau describes a race between caribou from an outsider’s perspective who knows nothing about races. This leads to some humorous descriptions and interpretations (the finish line, the starting pistol, the lineup at the start of the race).

The pictures are fun and give a whole new meaning to unsportsmanlike conduct. As they race, the caribou will do anything to win first place. But one caribou realizes he isn’t enjoying racing and finds his own happiness. By the end, the reader is left to question who really won.

Unique messages about winning and losing. It’s definitely an odd little picture book but it was entertaining nevertheless.
