A fun, spooky story about a girl who tries to tell her family about the wolves living in the walls. Delightfully creepy, at times nonsensical, this was an interesting read. Inspired by Gaiman’s daughter having a nightmare about wolves in the walls, this is a darkly humorous tale that is sure to make you question just what’s living in your walls, watching and plotting.
Overall, I enjoyed the story. It was silly and creepy, which is exactly what I love in Gaiman’s writing. There’s quite a variety in the illustration style from photographs and compilations to sketches. There were parts of the mashup style I liked and parts not so much. I really enjoyed the silhouettes and drawings but the more computer-generated style didn’t work for me. I really liked the wolf artwork but the people creeped me out. While I loved the story, some of the art was a bit off-putting for me personally.
This book takes a special reader. Probably wouldn’t recommend it for very young kids, but great for those who enjoy creepy stories. The artwork makes the story much creepier in my opinion. An unsettling tale that adds a bit of humor to put a fun spin on it.
