Beautifully written. I absolutely love Nethercott’s writing style. Lyrical and stunning to visualize.
Siblings Bellatine and Isaac haven’t seen each other in years, but reunite to claim a strange inheritance. They are both surprised to receive a house with chicken legs. Together they embark on a journey filled with unexpected encounters, close calls, and a bit of magic, all while pursued by a sinister foe.
A strange and remarkable tale of family, folklore, generational trauma, and the power of memory. I love the ways Nethercott connects history and folklore. There were so many interesting and unique characters. I loved how complex and flawed they were. My absolute favorites were Winnie and obviously Thistlefoot.
Warning: There is a lot of trauma in this book. It is definitely not a light read.
Certainly not for everyone, but would definitely recommend to someone who doesn’t mind a leisurely pace, purple prose, multiple narrators, and a deeply weird story. For me, all of those elements came together to create a stunning story.
