A tree, a table, and a book. Three little tales have the unexpected power of connecting the past to the present in a whole new way. Absolutely beautiful.

Sophie W. is 11 years old. Sophie G. is 88. Despite their age gap, they are best friends. When the elder Sophie starts forgetting things, the precocious younger Sophie sets out to test and improve her friend’s memory. Through Sophie G.’s stories, Sophie W. connects with history is a way she never imagined.

Wonderfully constructed. A beautiful blend of history, friendship, humor, and the harsh realities of life. The characters are so well written. I absolutely loved this story.

The audiobook was fantastic. Newhouse really brought each character to life. A wonderful listening experience.

I could have done without young Sophie W.’s obsession with “good” nutrition and demonization of “junk” food, but overall this was a great read.

A beautiful exploration of the power of stories. Heartbreaking and hopeful. A powerful tale of friendship, loss, and growing up.
