Absolutely adorable. This delightful picture book tells the story of Michael McConnell and Jack Baker’s journey to getting married. Told by the two grooms on their wedding cake, it follows how they met all the way through their decades-long marriage.
Beautifully written with lovely parallels drawn between baking a cake and a romantic relationship developing. The text focuses on the couple’s love, the discrimination they faced, their search for loopholes in the law, and their eventual wedding.
The artwork is adorable. The wedding toppers’ dance sequence really stole the show.
At the back is an Author’s Note that gives more details on McConnell and Baker’s journey, a timeline of marriage equality in America, then and now photos of McConnell and Baker, and a bibliography of further resources.
An adorably sweet book that is just as heartwarming as a freshly baked cake. Such a wonderful read emphasizing love, ingenuity, and marriage equality.
