I can’t help it. I instantly feel the need to read any book with a dragon on the cover. This was a great dragon book. One of the things that I really enjoyed about it is that it’s actually about dragons. It’s not about some human who makes friends with dragons or about a human fighting dragons. It’s about a bunch of dragons, their mythology, their politics, and their dynamics. I found it all very interesting. The writing was very well-done. I was pulled into the story very quickly. The entire story was interesting and I really liked the variety of characters. There are characters you like and characters you don’t like. They don’t all feel like they all come from the same mold. They all have their own personalities. The one thing I didn’t like was the overuse of the word “said”. I listened to the audiobook and after anyone talked in the book, it was almost always stated that they “said” it. I got so tired of hearing the word “said” over and over. There are so many other words to use (whispered, shouted, commented, added, replied, countered, argued, agreed). It didn’t take away from the story, it’s just one of my pet peeves that is annoyingly obvious in audiobooks. Overall, I thought this was a great start to the series. It sets everything up and introduces the main characters, while allowing the reader to get used to the setup. I will definitely be continuing this series. Goodreads |
