Loved this book. I am a huge fan of Miranda and think he is an incredibly inspiring and talented individual. I knew a lot of this information already, having read Hamilton: The Revolution, but it was very interesting to see the story simplified in a way that children could more easily understand.

This is a wonderful book for kids to learn about Miranda’s life. I think kids can easily find something to relate to in this book. In it, we see Miranda’s love for music and Disney movies as a child. Calkhoven also frames the story with the narrative that if you work hard, you can follow your dreams. She uses Miranda as an example of this message. Very inspiring and empowering message.

The book is set up with short chapters accompanied by gorgeous pictures. Each chapter goes through various stages of Miranda’s life. At the end of the book, there is also some information on Puerto Rico, Broadway, and how to write your own play. And there is a short quiz on the information in the book to test reading comprehension.

This is a Level Three book with a more complex plot, challenging words, and longer sentence structure. Good for confident readers.

This is also a great book to get children interested in non-fiction. Growing up, I thought all non-fiction was boring. When I got older, I had to force myself to read it. Now I realize, it all depends on the non-fiction books you read. The You Should Meet series does a great job of telling famous people’s stories in ways that are interesting and fun to read. Perfect for fostering a love of non-fiction in young readers.
