An okay collection of zombie-themed stories. Includes a nice range within the theme, from a sinister video game to a frightening day in science class to waking up with odd cravings. “The Zombie Hand” by Laurie S. Sutton was my favorite.
Because the stories are so short (7 pages each), some of them didn’t quite hit for me and felt a bit underdeveloped. As these are all zombie stories, there is quite a bit of predictability to them, which may work fine your younger readers.
Includes a glossary of terms at the end as well as a few discussion questions and writing prompts.
Overall, it’s a fine horror collection for young readers. There are definitely scary and gruesome bits so not for the sensitive reader. There is a surprising number of zombie animals, animal deaths, and suggestions of bad things happening to animals included, so if you’re sensitive to that (like I am), I wouldn’t recommend this collection.
